Marrakech is one of the most popular short-break destinations for UK travellers — and it's easy to understand why. Just 3.5 hours from London Gatwick or Stansted, Morocco's most captivating city offers more culture, colour, history and flavour per square metre than almost anywhere else on earth. And it costs a fraction of a European city break.

When to Visit — Best Times for UK Travellers

🌸 March–May (Spring) — Best Overall

Perfect temperatures (22–28°C), beautiful light, flowers blooming in the Atlas valleys. This is when Marrakech is at its most photogenic. Our top recommendation for UK visitors. Book early — March and April sell out fast from the UK.

🍂 October–November (Autumn) — Second Best

The summer crowds have gone, temperatures are ideal (25–30°C), and the city feels more relaxed. October is arguably the best month to visit the Sahara Desert — perfect for the 3-day tour from Marrakech.

❄️ December–February (Winter) — Budget Season

Cheapest flights and hotels. Daytime temperatures of 18–22°C feel warm compared to UK winters. Christmas and New Year in Marrakech has become increasingly popular with British travellers — the city decorates beautifully and the atmosphere is magical.

☀️ June–August (Summer) — Avoid if Possible

Very hot (38–42°C). Most UK travellers find the heat overwhelming in July and August. If you must travel in summer, plan indoor activities for midday and limit outdoor exploration to early morning and evening.

What Things Cost — Pounds vs Dirhams

Morocco uses the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). The exchange rate is approximately £1 = 12–13 MAD, making Morocco excellent value for British travellers.

💡 Money Tip for UK Travellers

Get Dirhams from a bank ATM on arrival — rates are better than airport exchange. Revolut and Wise cards work perfectly in Marrakech ATMs with no fees. Don't bring pounds to exchange — Euro and Dollar are accepted everywhere but pounds less so.
